Launching Quven

Quven is here: a self-hosted media server for your films, your series and your documentaries, built to feel premium on every screen while your library stays on hardware you own.

Editorial update, 26 September 2026: This article was published at launch, with Quven 1.0.18. Since then the Android, Android TV and Fire TV apps have reached Google Play and the Amazon Appstore, and the iPhone and iPad app is on the App Store. The apps page and the roadmap list what’s available today.

What you can do today

Install the server where your media lives and point it at your folders. Then you’ll be able to watch in the native Windows or macOS desktop app, in the apps for phones, tablets and televisions, or, with Pro, in the hosted web client in a modern browser. The macOS release is signed and notarized, and it’ll run on Intel and Apple silicon alike. On Linux, Quven ships as a server for x64 and ARM64, as an AppImage or a Docker image. Direct play, hardware decoding, untouched HD audio and styled subtitles: they’re all there on the native clients, which is the whole point of building them natively.

Your library and your everyday playback stay on infrastructure you control. A Quven Account adds sign-in, plan management and the managed relay on top. But it doesn’t turn the home media server into a hosted library, because none of your files ever has to leave the house for any of it to work.

Free for personal use

Although paid plans exist, playing your own library is free for personal use: direct play, hardware transcoding, the native apps, subtitles, simultaneous streams and updates, with no advertising. That’s the free floor. It doesn’t move. So what do the paid plans add? The services Quven runs, such as the zero-configuration managed relay, and a set of advanced tools that the plans page lists one by one, while reaching your own server through your own network setup costs nothing at all and product analytics remains optional and bound to the consent you’ve actually given.

Founders

Founder status went to the first 100 eligible accounts. Founders receive Pro at no cost through 31 December 2026 with no card required, and a Founder account can buy Lifetime Max for the promised €69 through that date, which is the one explicit exception to the schedule that applies to everybody else. From 1 January 2027 the standard Lifetime price applies to everyone. The documentation carries the complete terms.

What’s next

The Apple TV app and the Smart TV apps should come next, and they’ll be announced on the roadmap when they ship, while music and ebooks are already in preview on the desktop app and the web client.
