Please read these Terms & Conditions (the "Terms") carefully. By downloading, installing or using Quven you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, do not install or use the software.
1. Who we are
Quven is an independent software project developed and operated from Italy (the "Operator", "we", "us"). Quven is published under the brand and domain quven.tv. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. What Quven is
Quven is a self-hosted media server: software you install and run on your own hardware to organise and play your own movies, TV shows and documentaries on your own devices. Quven is not a streaming service and does not provide, host, index or supply any media content, catalogue or library. You provide and are solely responsible for the media files you add to your server.
3. Your licence to use Quven
Quven is proprietary, closed-source freeware. The server and the desktop and web applications are free to download and use. Subject to these Terms, the Operator grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Quven for your own purposes, including within a household.
You may not:
- sell, rent, sublicense, redistribute or otherwise make the software available to third parties as your own;
- copy, decompile, reverse-engineer, disassemble or attempt to derive the source code, except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction;
- circumvent, disable or tamper with licensing, entitlement or feature controls, or use the paid (Pro / Max) features without a valid entitlement;
- remove or alter any proprietary notices, branding or attributions.
The software, its design and all related intellectual property remain the property of the Operator and its licensors. No rights are granted except those expressly set out here.
4. Your responsibilities and acceptable use
Because Quven runs on hardware you control, you are solely responsible for your server, your network, your devices and the content you store and stream through them. You agree to:
- use Quven only with media you own or are otherwise legally entitled to access and play;
- comply with all applicable laws, including copyright and data protection law, in your use of the software;
- secure your own server, accounts, credentials and any remote access you choose to enable.
You must not use Quven to infringe the rights of others or for any unlawful purpose. The Operator has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, the media you choose to manage with the software.
5. Plans, the Founders programme and payments
Quven offers three tiers — Free, Pro and Max. The complete local, self-hosted experience is free and is intended to stay free; paid tiers add optional features that carry a real running cost or significant additional development. The current tiers and pricing are described on the Plans page and may change over time.
At launch Quven is offered free of charge, alongside a limited Founders programme that grants a number of early accounts complimentary Pro access until a stated closing date. Paid subscriptions are not sold through this website today. When paid plans become available, billing will be handled through the account portal at accounts.quven.tv and will be subject to the billing terms presented at checkout.
6. Quven Account and cloud services
Some optional features rely on a free Quven Account and on cloud services operated by us at the technical domain quven.cloud. These include account identity, licensing and entitlement delivery, the managed remote-access relay and AI subtitle translation. Your media library, watch history, ratings and profiles stay on your own server and are not synchronised to the cloud.
Cloud services are provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and may add, change, suspend or discontinue cloud features. You must keep your account credentials confidential and are responsible for activity under your account.
6.1 Remote access
Reaching your own server from outside your local network by your own means (for example port-forwarding, a reverse proxy or a VPN) is part of the free, self-hosted experience. The managed relay — which provides zero-configuration remote access through our infrastructure — is a paid feature and may be subject to fair-use limits to keep its bandwidth cost sustainable.
6.2 AI subtitle translation
AI subtitle translation is an optional feature that sends the subtitle text you choose to translate to a third-party large-language-model provider through our cloud service. It is off by default and runs only when you explicitly request a translation. See the Privacy Policy for how this data is handled.
7. Third-party software, data and services
Quven bundles and relies on third-party components and services, each governed by its own terms:
- FFmpeg, distributed under the GNU General Public License, is bundled as a separate aggregated program for media analysis and transcoding.
- Movie and TV metadata is retrieved by your server from TMDb and OMDb. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
- Subtitles may be retrieved from OpenSubtitles.
- Streaming-availability information is provided by JustWatch via TMDb and is shown for information only.
- Diagnostics, relay, email, payments and AI providers (such as Sentry, Cloudflare, Stripe and large-language-model providers) support optional features as described in the Privacy Policy.
Your use of these third-party services through Quven may be subject to their respective terms. We are not responsible for third-party services or for the accuracy of third-party data.
8. Updates and changes to the software
We may release updates, and may add, change or remove features at any time. Some updates may be required for continued use of certain features. We are not obliged to maintain backward compatibility or to provide any particular feature indefinitely.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Quven is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that it will meet your requirements. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the software or the cloud services. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of your media and configuration. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Quven at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your access to the cloud services, or this licence, if you breach these Terms or use the software unlawfully. The free, local software you have installed continues to function independently of the cloud services, subject to this licence remaining in force.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page; your continued use of Quven after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. Any dispute shall be subject to the competent courts of Italy, again without prejudice to mandatory consumer jurisdiction rules that may apply to you.
14. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent to [email protected] or through the Support page.
Quven is independent software you run on your own hardware. The free, local experience does not require a Quven Account or any cloud service — those are optional and clearly identified.
